Edinburgh International Film Festival (IEIFF)

Updated: Apr 19, 2022

Inaugurated in 1947, the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is the world's longest continually-running film festival in the world.

The Women's Film Festival was among the important moments in the history of the Festival, aimed exclusively at female directors and part of EIFF since 1972. Lynda Myles, Festival Director from 1973 to 1980, was the first woman to occupy such a role at any film festival in history.

Every year EIFF welcomes up to 400 media representatives and over 1300 filmmakers and industry professionals from around the globe offering them a wide range of screenings, services, and events throughout the festival.

The festival also has a strong track record of creating, shaping, and managing innovative Talent Development programmes across all disciplines.

Its aim is to build and expand on its previous initiatives and deliver quality programmes for filmmakers across Scotland, the UK, and internationally.

Every year, the EIFF gives out a selection of awards for both feature and short films, including the prestigious Michael Powell Award which is awarded to an outstanding British feature fiction.
