Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF)

Updated: Jul 24, 2022

The first edition of the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) was held in September 2020.

It was aimed at debut achievements in film from all over the globe, while also promoting Jordan’s up-and-coming pool of the professional audio-visual sector.

With emerging filmmakers as its main focus, AIFF promoted works that manifest artistic boldness, the strength of form, and originality.

In addition to film screenings, the programme includes film industry events such as master classes, seminars, pitching sessions and discussions with directors and film stars that are organized to stimulate aspiring filmmakers in Jordan and the region.

The aim, according to its president HRH Princess Rym Ali, is: “Developing and promoting an Arab cinema that reflects the creativity of the region and tackles the issues that are prevalent today.”

The distinctive edge of this Festival is its focus on first-timers. While the international jury selects the best Arab feature-length narrative, documentary and short film, the audience chooses its favourite international début film. All winning films also receive cash awards.

The AIFF aims to foster a creative buzz among directors, celebrities and film enthusiasts, by offering high-quality films, regardless of their box-office performance.

Whether you are a budding Arab filmmaker or an international veteran, an actor or a critic, an industry insider or an enthusiastic consumer, the AIFF welcomes you!
