The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture - AFAC

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

It was established in 2007 at the initiative of Arab cultural activists. AFAC, based in Beirut, collaborates with artists and organizations from all over the Arab world and the rest of the world.

In its work, AFAC adheres to three fundamental principles:

Autonomy: AFAC is eager to diversify its funding sources, allowing autonomy to work toward the realization of its vision.

Transparency: AFAC adheres to transparency at all stages of work, beginning with grant application forms and continuing through the selection process.

Dynamism: AFAC evaluates its work on a regular basis, allowing it to be constantly ready to evolve or modify its programs.

The work of AFAC is divided into five strategic areas:

1. Grants: AFAC offers close to 200 grants every year which are spread over nine programs: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, the AFAC Documentary Program, Music, the Research on the Arts Program, Creative and Critical Writings, Training and Regional Events, Cinema, and the Arab Documentary Photography Program.

2. Training and Mentorship: to develop missing skills and practices, as is the case with the Arts and Culture Entrepreneurship and the Arab Documentary Photography programs.

3. Knowledge Building and Sharing: AFAC’s extensive database includes more than 10,000 applicants and 1,350 funded projects, which has made it into a considerable source of information.

4. Broadening the Pool of Supporters for the Arts: AFAC is strengthening philanthropy for working with the private sector to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship.

5. Building Audiences: AFAC seeks to cultivate appreciation for and engagement with arts and culture production to reinforce the transformational power of creative expression.
